Patti's Personal Opinion:
Waitress

(I Loved it! )

waitress

I LOVED being a waitress!

I get tons of emails from customers asking why I wanted to be a waitress to start with. Unfortunately, most waitresses start off because it’s the only job they could get, or they think it’s easy.

I actually WANTED to be a waitress after observing the occupation as a child. I was always interested in watching people, seeing what they do, and then seeing their results. I guess I was destined to be a waitress or bartender, or a behavioral scientist. How many behavioral scientist do you know who make a fabulous living right out of high school?

It didn’t take me long to realize that the waitresses who were making the most money every shift were doing little things that the vast majority of others didn’t care about. I cared. I watched MANY waitresses. I was always testing little things and learning.

Waitressing isn’t brain surgery. You start by getting comfortable with the proper basic methods of being a waitress. You then constantly work on and improve your customer/people skills. It doesn’t take long until you have most bars, restaurants and diners in your town dying to have you work for them. Customers will keep coming back and asking to be put in your section. There is just something about the way to serve them (wink).

Don’t settle for working as a waitress for a paltry hourly wage.

Get GREAT at your waitressing skills, find a great (busy) place to work, and make a great, plentiful income as a waitress

Here’s a quick way to make sure you are focusing on your customer:
Make sure to talk very little about yourself. Ask open ended questions about them, and follow up their answers with other questions. Stay in the moment and make sure you don’t seem uninterested or detached from their answers.
